Dead Sea, Vitiligo

Dead Sea: I’m Home!

Just a quick update to say I’ve just arrived back home to the UK from an amazing 21 days in Jordan!DeadSeaView

I couldn’t find the time to blog at all whilst out there but I’ll have something up with in the next few days with details about the treatment and how it’s worked for me so far.

It’s good news though 🙂

Hi Simon! So happy to see that u r back! I am so excited to hear what u have to tell us! I have been following your blog. My 5 almost 6 yr old ( her birthday is tomorrow) has vitiligo and it is slowly spreading. It breaks my heart. I spend hours searching for “cures” on the internet. I took her to a dermatologist and a naturopathic doctor 2 months ago. She is using cutivate and protopic and is on a gluten and dairy free diet. 2 little spots on her forehead have disappeared but the other spots r still the same. Day before yesterday i saw that she has it on her nose. It just breaks my heart. She also started taking Chakra Pigmento 3 days ago which the naturapathic doctor prescribed. I hope it works. But i am curious to know more about dr Karin Schullreuters treatment. I saw Lee Thomas’s video after the treatment and it seemed to work with him. Please inform us more about this. Did you see children there? Good luck and all the best for you and everyone that has vitiligo. I pray that there will be a cure very soon!

      Hi Delly,

Happy Birthday to your Daughter! 🙂

Thanks for the comment, it keeps me motivated to continue blogging.

I would say continue with what you are currently doing, it’s not uncommon to repigment and depigment simultaneously whilst the Vitiligo is stabilising.

Lee Thomas was actually at the Dead Sea whilst I was there. Seeing as he had fully depigmented, he’s now at about 80% repgimented which is incredible and a good advert for Schallreuter’s treatment.

Yes there were quite a few children there and Schallreuter really focuses and takes care of them. It’s really nice to see.

The Dead Sea post will be up soon.

      Simon.

      Dear Delly,

Since three weeks I am back with my 10 year old daughter from the same trip Simon did (probably he doesn’t recall because we arrived with the fifth group).

My daughter was 6 when vitiligo appeared. I knew from the first tiny spot what it was because as a child I had a few spots which disappeared in my puberty. We tried a few things to improve it and very early I got in contact with the Schallreuter team (you can’t miss her if you search for treatment and expertise in vitiligo). Fortunately we live in Germany and after starting the PC KUS treatment we saw minor success in my daughters repigmentation process. This encouraged us to go to Jordan last year: it was a group of 12 children and the atmosphere for the kids has been great even though the climatherapy was hard for them: 15 min. each side (3 turns) in the direct sun, 35 degrees in the shade, twice a day. 2-3 weeks after our return Wiebke started to get pigments in her face and her back. Some months later a huge spot on her forehead had vanished. It was a matter of fact that we had to go a second time because we had some setbacks (Wiebke’s starting puberty and the hormonal rearrangement triggers H2O2 activity). This time we spend only two weeks but the success is stunning: every morning when I put on the lotion on her skin I can see new pigments. It’s like getting massive freckles in the early summer which grow and spread. We are really happy & thankful about this progress and I am certain to be on the right path with this therapy.
I just can encourage you to seek help from Professor Schallreuter.
Dear Delly, if you need more information or some pictures please contact me.

All best wishes for you & your daughter,

      Uli

    Hi Simon,

I have vitiligo too and had been planning to go for a trip to the dead sea sometime this year. I need to plan and I would like to know how many days you have to spend there to actually see results – when is the best time to go – so basically what’s the process, time scale, cost.. etc.

I would be grateful if you could advise on this 🙂

    Thanks,
    Sweta

      Hi Sweta,

I believe the Dead Sea is key to kickstarting repgimentation but it must be continued at home with UVB lamp or bed, depending on how much of the body is affected with Vitiligo. From just my experience, April/May time is good time but some do go later in the year. I’ve got older posts covering what I’ve spent on it. I’ll give the process and times in the next post, I’ll get round to it soon, it’s been delayed as I’ve been very busy at the moment.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

      Regards

      Simon.

    Hi Simon,
I left you a comment earlier – but my question now is – is it necessary to go to the dead sea if you have the pseudocatalase cream and on UVB treatment? Also where do you buy the cream? Can you trust this site: http://www.pseudocatalase.com/index.html ?

Thanks for getting back to me!

    Cheers,
    Sweta

    • Reply Simon May 23, 2014 at 11:43 pm

      Hi Sweta,

I found just the PC-KUS & UVB very slow. PC-KUS & Climatherapy at the Dead Sea definitely has increased my rate of repigmentation combined with the UVB so I feel it’s definitely an important part of the process if you’d like the best chance of repigmentation.

I haven’t used that site, but I know some that have. As I understood it they had reverse engineered Dr Schallreuters cream to sell it. It may be the same, but I only buy from her as I can guarantee it’s the patented formula and if I have any issues I can contact her.

I am sorry to be forward, but by now Simon had enough time to settle back from his long journey and had time to written something. The suspend is killing me. Simon just write two paragraphs of how things turned out, please.

      Pedro,

      Please be patient.

As I said in previous posts, I’ve started a new job and moved to London. I’ve had little time at the moment. I’ll get a post up soon answering your questions.

My daughter has vitiligo and and haven’t gone into treatments because it doesn’t bother her yet. We tried steroid cream where her skin does re-pigment but only short-term – which I guess would mean she would respond to UVA treatments. Would you recommend UVA treatments?

    • Reply Simon May 23, 2014 at 11:26 pm

      Hi Ashley,

I wouldn’t really recommend PUVA now a days, I feel that narrowband UVB treatments are a lot safer and seem more affective than PUVA.

    Simon,
love the blog. I have been looking for a reliable place to find relevant information, and so far, this is the only place that has given me hope. I can’t go to the Dead Sea until 2016 (getting married next year, and need to save the vacation). Until then, is it possible to order the cream from Dr. Schallreuter, and if it is, how do I do that? What is a good place online to buy the UVB lamps needed to use with the cream?

    • Reply Simon May 27, 2014 at 6:44 pm

      Nazif,

      Thanks for the kind comments!

I’m unsure if you can buy the cream from Prof. Schallreuter without seeing her in Germany first. She tests for reactions and also can prescribe different creams depending on your Vitiligo(one of the creams contains protopic for example). I recommend e-mailing her and finding out.

I always buy from Amazon. I think the full UVB panel is about £2600 and the lamp about £180.

      Hope this helps!

      Regards

      Simon.
