Dead Sea: Trip to Germany

This is only a short blog post, specifically for anyone flying from the UK to Berlin. I’m now checked into the Mercure Hotel in Greifswald in preparation for my consultation tomorrow with Dr Schallreuter. Nothing really went to plan today…

Flight was booked for 9.10am via Lufthansa Airlines. I arrived at Heathrow to find my flight to Berlin had been cancelled…

I was moved to a 7:00pm flight but after arguing it out for 20 mins got moved to a 2.35pm flight instead.

So all was saved, or so I thought…

I arrived into Berlin Tegel Airport at around 6.30pm and took a taxi(around 15 euro) to Berlin Hauptbahnhof. I asked at the Information Desk for the next direct train to Griefswald and I was told 8.33pm. I then went down a level to the Ticket Desk who told me I’d been wrongly informed  and in fact there were no more direct trains to Griefswald this evening! The alternative they gave me was to get the 7.43pm train Stralsund(approx 30 miles away from Griefswald) and wait until 4am to get the first train back to Griefswald 🙁

I went back to the Information Desk and asked what my options were from Stralsund, I was considering getting a taxi as I was that desperate to get to my hotel. The Information Desk apologised for their mistake and gave me a taxi voucher to get from Straslund to Griefswald(about 60euro)! I was pleasantly surprised and seeing as this was my first time in Germany, I can now see why the German people have such a good reputation, this would NEVER happen in London!

I spent 3 1/2 hours on the train to Straslund station and once I arrived got a taxi back to Griefswald which thankfully, was all trouble free!

So, I set out at 5am in the UK and finally arrived at 11.45pm at the hotel in Griefswald.

Keep some of this in mind if you plan to travel to Berlin from the UK, make sure you’ve pre planned the train times.

Appointment with Dr Schallreuter at 11am tomorrow, more to come after that..
